GVM's General Surgery Departments handle all conditions requiring surgical intervention.
The various departments include:
Some examples of interventions carried out selectively:
- Gastro-esophageal reflux and hiatal hernia
- Gastric neoplasms
- Colorectal neoplasms GIST (gastro-intestinal stromal tumors)
- Chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Gallstones
- Hernias of the abdominal wall (inguinal, crural, umbilical and incisional hernias)
- Proctological surgery (haemorrhoidal prolapse, perianal fistulas, obstructed defecation syndrome, rectal/multicompartmental prolapse - recto-utero-vesical, fecal and/or urinary incontinence)
The General Surgery Unit operates through various methods, including ordinary hospitalization, Day Hospital, and One-day surgery or Same-day surgery (performed on an outpatient basis).
Surgical treatment of benign or malignant conditions in various organs and systems is performed with a preference for minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic, laparoscopic, or robotic surgery. These techniques involve using instruments that allow surgery through small incisions of just a few millimeters.
Compared to traditional surgery, the advantages of these methods include shorter hospitalization and recovery times, reduced post-operative trauma and infections, and improved aesthetic outcomes for scars.
