Maria Pia Hospital, founded in the early 1900s as a sanatorium, was the first private facility in Italy to practice Cardiac Surgery. Part of GVM Care & Research since 1988, it is a High Specialty Hospital constantly searching for innovative techniques to offer patients the best procedures and top therapeutic quality.
As a matter of fact, during 2013 it obtained certification for percutaneous valve implantations (TAVI) - Transcatheter Aortic Heart Valve - an innovative, non-surgical “life saving” technique mainly aimed at patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis, an aortic valve disease (determined by mitral ring contraction) which affects thousands of patients in the Western world, especially the elderly.
